Job information
The University of Bedfordshire is an ambitious, dynamic institution with over 24,000 students, with a mission to transform lives and communities for the better. Technology has an important role to play, and the University ICT department is a great place to work and be part of a friendly, focused, forward-looking team in an environment where the technical professional is valued and can flourish.
The Infrastructure Automation Engineer (DevOps) will be responsible for implementing and managing automation workflows that enhance the performance, security and reliability of the University’s IT infrastructure. This includes scripting and automation across Windows Server Platform, Active Directory, Azure AD (Entra ID), Microsoft 365, Azure infrastructure and virtualisation platforms. You will also play a key role in endpoint and server lifecycle activities using Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM/MECM) and, where appropriate, Intune in a co-management model.
This role will be central to driving efficiency through automation, supporting hybrid identity solutions and ensuring that systems align with security and compliance standards. You will contribute to the administration of core infrastructure services such as DNS, DHCP, Microsoft IPAM and help integrate DevOps methodologies into existing IT processes.
The position will also play a key role in the delivery of infrastructure and automation projects that support the University’s strategic IT goals. This includes working closely with project managers, senior administrators and stakeholders across departments to evaluate and implement new technologies, modernise builds and deployments (e.g. SCCM task sequences, Autopilot/Intune where applicable), monitor performance and ensure systems are optimised for scalability, reliability and compliance. Your responsibilities will also involve producing and maintaining accurate technical documentation, automation workflows, configurations and compliance reports.
This position requires an individual with hands-on experience in PowerShell and who is comfortable working with SCCM/MECM and Azure infrastructure, supported by a practical understanding of DevOps principles. The successful candidate must be able to multitask, manage competing priorities, and work effectively as part of a team within a large higher education environment.
Interviews will be held on the 25/09/25
We kindly request that all applicants refrain from canvassing during the shortlisting process.
