Impact: Cogniters strive to make an impact in all that they do. We are result-oriented, always asking ourselves.
Ownership: Cogniters embrace a culture of ownership. We go beyond our comfort zones to contribute to the greater good, fostering inclusivity and sharing responsibilities for challenges and success.
Relentless: Cogniters are relentless in their pursuit of innovation. We are determined and deliverable (never ruthless or reckless), facing challenges head-on and viewing setbacks as opportunities for growth.
We are looking for a Infrastructure Software Engineer to join our infrastructure group. Infrastructure in Cognite is responsible for our foundational infrastructure and the internal developer platform. This means everything from provisioning cloud infrastructure with Terraform through supporting our service teams with CI/CD services and ensuring they have working observability and alerting. In addition, we build an internal developer platform to reduce cognitive load for our developers. Our success is measured by how easy it is to be a productive developer in Cognite and the quality of the infrastructure we build.
You will work together with other engineers in the team across a wide range of services, choosing to focus where the effort will have the largest impact. Our tech stack is built on Kubernetes and cloud technologies, using GitHub, Jenkins and Spinnaker for CI/CD, Prometheus, Grafana and Lightstep for metrics and observability. We run across multiple clouds, currently Google Cloud, Azure, AWS, and OpenShift. A strong understanding of the underlying concepts and ways of thinking in the infrastructure space is more important than familiarity with all of the tools we use.

KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES INCLUDE

  • Broad experience with DevOps practices such as CI/CD and Infrastructure as code
  • Experience building scalable solutions
  • Cloud experience is preferred, but a keen proven interest can compensate
  • Software development experience, preferably with Go or Python
  • Familiarity and experience with our tech stack is beneficial
  • Passionate about automation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Adaptability and resilience; comfort in startup environment, thinker, builder and continuous improvement
  • Continuous learner; naturally curious, and always ready to learn
  • Achievement oriented; exhibit a high say/do ratio
  • Teamwork & growth mind-set; partnering to support growth, challenges, finding creative solutions & delivering results
Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. We are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
Responsibilities
  • Develop robust infrastructure for deploying Cognite’s products on multiple clouds (including Azure, Google Cloud, AWS, and OpenShift)
  • Develop our internal developer platform, with a focus on reducing friction and cognitive load for our developers
  • Work with other engineering teams in Cognite to improve and adapt their services to run smoothly on Kubernetes
  • Use and contribute to open source tools such as Kubernetes, Emissary, Terraform, Prometheus, Spinnaker and Grafana
  • Tackle and solve challenging problems in areas such as network security, continuous integration, continuous deployment, monitoring, tracing, authentication and authorization, and secret management in a multi-cloud environment
  • Help shape the culture of the infrastructure team as well as the wider overall culture of Cognite
