EDUCATION

  • Three-year (3) Community College diploma in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, or professional experience related to the responsibilities of the position.

EXPERIENCE

  • Five years of experience directly related to the principal responsibilities of the position.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud technologies including account management, capacity and performance management, and production/development configuration changes.
  • Experience in the troubleshooting and resolution of infrastructure problems in a networked environment.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Extensive knowledge of network, cloud, and server-based technologies.
  • Basic knowledge of scripting languages.
  • Provides technical advice and consultation to support both the application server platforms and the operating systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Defender XDR, Microsoft Purview, and Microsoft Sentinel would be an asset.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Strong organizational skills, tact, judgment, multi -tasking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills as well as a strong client service skillset.
  • Understanding of the GC cloud guardrails v2 and the CSE Top 10 Security Actions would be an asset.

BILINGUAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the use of both official languages. The requirements in the second official language are:

  • An advanced level in reading comprehension (C).
  • An intermediate level in writing (B).
  • An advanced level in oral (C).
Responsibilities

  • Location : Hybrid work model with a minimum onsite requirement in Ottawa of three (3) days per week, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Information Technology Operations or the Senior Infrastructure Technologist, the Infrastructure Technologist:

  • Performs assessments of and improvements to the system infrastructure and networks within the corporate IT environment of the Council, and identifies systems and networks that deviate from acceptable configurations, and/or standard IT policies;
  • Evaluates incident response procedures and capabilities;
  • Designs systems infrastructure that are appropriate for users’ needs and consistent with the overall design of the Council’s infrastructure architecture including: collecting and analyzing technical information the development teams and outside vendors to formulate the infrastructure requirements and implement these requirements;
  • Conducts feasibility studies to design possible infrastructure solutions;
  • Implements appropriate controls and mitigation strategies of identified security risks.
  • Estimates the costs of system infrastructure;
  • Implements and tests defined infrastructure;
  • Prepares and maintains technical documentation;
  • Acts as Service Levels 1 and 2 for the IT Help Desk;
  • Performs other related duties.
