Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Rock Mechanics Engineer will be responsible for planning and coordinating practical field work. He or she will conduct geotechnical studies and technical analyses of the project’s rock mechanics. Based at the Windfall site in northern Quebec, the engineer will work a 15-day work schedule followed by 13 days off. Transportation, accommodation, and meals will be provided.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in mining engineering or geological engineering;
  • Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ);
  • Have a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in the mining field, including three (3) years in rock mechanics or ground control;
  • Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license;
  • Hold mining modules 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7;
  • Hold a valid explosives license.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Knowledge of various processes according to industry standards;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.) and specialized software such as AutoCAD, Deswik, and Rocscience;
  • Have a good knowledge of the laws and regulations applicable to exploration and mining sites.
  • Have a good command of French and English. Will be required to work with English-speaking consultants and suppliers.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the company’s representative on site and ensure that all work is performed according to industry standards;

  • Participate in the planning, coordination, monitoring, and interpretation of geotechnical investigations;
  • Conduct field campaigns and describe soils and rock;
  • Carry out design studies (stability, infiltration, and deformation analyses of external or underground rock walls);
  • Apply field and rock mechanics control processes for mining operations;
  • Train candidates for the engineering profession (CPI) and mining technicians in the discipline of field control;
  • Revise the field control program for the Windfall Lake project as needed;
  • Apply the ground control program;
  • Actively participate in the planning and monitoring of the mining sequence, site design, and review of paste backfill planning;
  • Participate in studies related to mining areas with relevant internal and external stakeholders;
  • Participate in the deployment of the underground project’s seismic system;
  • Work closely with the entire engineering team to ensure consistency between the various disciplines;
  • Travel to the field to assess the situation and make appropriate recommendations for corrective measures;
  • Prepare reports, plans, and technical specifications;
  • When required, give presentations to members of management or other stakeholders to monitor the progress of work;
  • Actively participate in various organizational meetings;
  • Always comply with occupational health and safety and environmental policies and rules and ensure that staff comply with these rules;
  • Perform any other tasks related to the position of rock mechanics engineer that are relevant to the success of the project.
