ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a proactive and dedicated Injury Management & Return to Work Specialist to join the Safety – Health & Hygiene team at Whyalla. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating injury management and return to work programs that support our people, ensure compliance with statutory requirements, and drive positive outcomes for both workers and the business.
You will act as the key point of contact for injured and ill employees, their leaders, medical providers, and claims agents, ensuring early intervention, effective rehabilitation, and sustainable return-to-work outcomes. As a subject matter expert, you will also provide guidance, coaching, and assurance to leaders and stakeholders on WorkCover, injury management, and compliance requirements. This is a highly impactful role where your expertise will directly improve recovery outcomes, maintain self-insurance standards, and strengthen our culture of care and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate rehabilitation and return-to-work programs with employees, leaders, and medical providers.
- Facilitate suitable duties programs and negotiate recovery pathways aligned with medical restrictions and operational needs.
- Provide advice, coaching, and mentoring to management on WorkCover, return-to-work programs, and extended wage support.
- Maintain strong relationships with injured workers, supervisors, treating doctors, allied health professionals, and claims agents.
- Ensure compliance with South Australian legislation, GFG standards, and WorkCover Performance Standards for Self-Insurers.
- Attend medical reviews, case conferences, and claim review meetings to support early intervention and best outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and confidential case records in line with legislative and self-insurance requirements.
- Contribute to audits, investigations, and reporting to support compliance and continual improvement.
- Drive operational excellence by developing and implementing early intervention initiatives and return-to-work strategies.
- Promote a positive safety culture by supporting health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives across site.
About You
- Formal qualifications in injury management, rehabilitation, or a related discipline.
- RTWSA Return to Work Coordinator certification (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of South Australian Workers Compensation and Injury Management legislation.
- Demonstrated experience in injury management, WorkCover claims, and self-insurance compliance.
- High level of communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills across all levels of an organisation.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage sensitive and complex cases.
- Proficient in claims management systems, Microsoft Office, and digital collaboration platforms.
- Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality, integrity, and continuous improvement.
- Experience in heavy industry or self-insured environments highly desirable.
