ABOUT US:

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) delivers a justice and community safety system that works to build a safer, fairer and stronger Victoria.
The Injury Management Coordinator role sits within Safety, Wellbeing and Compliance, a branch of People, Safety, Culture and Communications in the Department of Justice and Community Safety. The Health, Safety and Wellbeing unit provides process, systems and services to support the Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) to meet its responsibilities under Health and Safety Laws (Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, Dangerous Goods Act 1985 and Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013).
People, Safety, Culture and Communications’ core functions span the breadth of workplace cultural and people matters, including human resource policy and strategy; organisational culture and change; recruitment, redeployment and retention; performance and development; pay, benefits and workforce reporting; occupational health and safety management; and employment regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A tertiary qualification in an OHS, allied health discipline or an equivalent in human resource management is highly desirable.
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Injury Management Coordinator role is responsible for the day-to-day management of WorkCover matters across Corrections Victoria sites. The role manages processes related to injured employees, including return to work (RTW) using the department’s early intervention program and workers compensation processes. The goal of this work is to return employees to their substantive role in an effective and timely manner.

Some of your other duties will include:

  • Providing expert advice, information and support to people managers on legal requirements in OHS and return-to-work processes, ensuring managers are aware of the employer’s responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, Accident Compensation Act 1985 and Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013.
  • Providing effective case management of injured staff including complex cases and cases with long term incapacity.
  • Keeping accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the department’s records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.

  • Experience with occupational rehabilitation and driving return to work outcomes is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current legislation and developments in relation to WorkCover and OHS would be advantageous
