Job Summary
The Inmate Grievance Coordinator is responsible for managing the inmate grievance process within the Arkansas Department of Corrections. This role ensures that inmate grievances are handled fairly, promptly, and in compliance with state and federal laws, providing a critical function in maintaining order and addressing inmate concerns. The position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Primary Responsibilities
Manage the inmate grievance process, ensuring grievances are addressed promptly and fairly. Review and investigate inmate grievances, gathering relevant information and documentation. Coordinate with facility staff, administrators, and other stakeholders to resolve grievances. Develop and implement policies and procedures related to the grievance process. Provide training and support to staff on grievance policies and procedures. Maintain accurate records and documentation of grievances, investigations, and resolutions. Prepare reports on grievance activities, trends, and outcomes. Ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and standards related to the grievance process. Address and resolve inmate complaints and concerns in a timely and professional manner. Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
Comprehensive understanding of correctional practices, policies, and procedures. In-depth knowledge of the inmate grievance process and related regulations. Familiarity with investigation and conflict resolution techniques. Awareness of state and federal laws and regulations governing corrections. Ability to analyze and interpret information and recommend appropriate action. Ability to interview and assist inmates. Ability to maintain required documentation, records, and reports. Aptitude for maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information.
Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus, two years of experience in correctional security, or related area.
