Department: FIN | CORE Coding - Inpatient Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: **This temporary, part-time position will work remotely** The Certified Procedural Coding Specialist - Inpatient reads and interprets health record documentation to identify all diagnoses and procedures that affect the current inpatient encounter visit and assesses the adequacy of the health record documentation to ensure it supports all diagnoses and procedures to which codes are assigned; completes final review of medical record and selects appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes within designated deadlines; reviews documentation to match appropriate codes with documentation for medical necessity; reviews records upon admission and periodically throughout hospitalization to assign working diagnosis and DRG, expected length of stay, and identification of Core Measure cases as assigned; collaborates with Clinical Documentation Specialists II to identify and address deficiencies. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: HS/GED with one of the following certifications: CCA, CCS, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA. Must have current CPC, CCS, RHIA or RHIT certification; must obtain CCS within 12 months of hire. Requires two years of coding experience. Must be self-directed with critical thinking and collaborative abilities. Preferred Qualification: Degree in Health Information Management or related field. Two years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility, in a multi-service/specialty setting. Current CCS certification preferred Additional Information: • Complete final review of medical record and select appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes within 4 days of patient discharge as assigned. • Review documentation to match appropriate codes with documentation for medical necessity. • Review records upon admission and periodically throughout hospitalization to assign working diagnosis and DRG, expected length of stay, and identification of Core Measures cases as assigned. • Work collaboratively with the Clinical Documentation Specialists II to identify and address documentation deficiencies. • Performs other duties as assigned.
