The West Vancouver Planning, Land Development & Permits Division has an immediate opening for a permanent, full-time Inspector-Trades II (Plumbing). This is regulatory, inspection and enforcement work of a technical nature involving the inspection of all types of plumbing, heating and sprinkler construction, repair or alteration. This position will also examine plans to ensure compliance with applicable plumbing codes, Acts, and Bylaws.
Reporting to the Supervisor of Inspections, this position will be responsible for:
- Plan-checking complex layout plans and specifications for plumbing, heating and sprinkler installations prior to the issuance of permits;
- Providing technical information and assistance to property owners, contractors, engineers, architects and municipal staff;
- Providing information and advice to several branches of the Planning, Land Development & Permits Division;
- Inspecting new plumbing, heating, sprinkler, and sewer connections;
- Surveying building sites for feasibility of storm drainage installations, advising throughout the construction, and inspecting completed installations;
- Inspecting building foundation drain tiles;
- Examining all new plumbing, heating and sprinkler material submitted from application acceptance to approval;
- Issuing permits, maintaining building department records and preparing reports;
- Other related duties as required.
The preferred candidate is a team player who possesses: thorough knowledge of the current BC Building and Plumbing Codes; Municipal Zoning and related bylaws; extensive knowledge of practical plumbing, heating, and lawn and fire sprinklers; the ability to deal effectively with registered professionals, contractors, and the general public with the interpretation of bylaws and regulations; working knowledge of NFPA-13, NFPA-13D, NFPA-13R; and Residential Hot Water Heating Association guidelines.
The successful candidate has completed Grade 12 education; an apprenticeship in the plumbing trade, plus considerable related experience as a skilled plumber; or a combination of training and experience. A minimum of Plumbing Level 1 Qualification from the Building Officials’ Association of BC is preferred and considered an asset.

$47.25 per hour
This position has a pay structure with five steps which increase annually.
