Description
POSITION SUMMARY The Fire Prevention Inspector ("Inspector") has the duty to enforce the fire code and regulations established by the Township, conduct fire prevention inspections, and carry out other related enforcement tasks. Additionally, the Inspector is required to respond to emergency service calls and help control any dangers arising from those emergencies. Responsibilities also extend to include periodic maintenance of fire equipment and apparatus, compiling fire incident reports, maintaining the cleanliness of both firefighting facilities and equipment, participation in special events, and performing various other duties as needed.  Work is carried out under the broad direction of the Manager, Fire Inspection, requiring a significant level of autonomy and discernment, with reviews conducted upon completion of the work. Inspectors are limited to a maximum of 24 working hours per week. Their responsibilities must be fulfilled according to a set schedule, with the possibility of working extra hours when necessary. This role is classified as non-exempt according to the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act. SELECTION GUIDELINES The candidate selected for this position is required to have work authorization in the United States and will undergo eligibility verification at the start of their employment. Furthermore, the candidate will undergo a background check, a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, and must certify adherence to the Township’s Nepotism Policy.
