KEPSC is hiring inspectors for VDOT highway and bridge construction and maintenance projects in VDOT’s Bristol and Salem districts.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects.
• Inspect and monitor contractual field work including excavations, drainage structures/facilities, permanent and temporary traffic control devices, road surfaces, guardrail installation, structures, erosion and sediment control measures, and others.
• Maintains project records including daily inspector report, workbook, and materials records.
• Maintains project records; including daily diaries, materials notebooks, as-built plans, pay quantity records, and monthly estimates.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years in roadway/bridge construction inspection.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
• Experience using PlanGrid® software.
• Valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR).
• Must have or be able to obtain any required certifications and pass qualifications tests for the position.
• Ability to travel and stay overnight.
• Flexibility to work nights and weekends as required by the project schedule.

Working knowledge of:

• VDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, Road and Bridge Standards, Construction Manual, and Inspector Manual.
• VA Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
• Mathematics including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.

Maintain the following certifications:

• Soil and Aggregate Compaction NICET LEVEL II
• Asphalt Field Level I & II
• Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field (ACI Concrete Field Level I, or WACEL Concrete I, or NICET Level II)
• Pavement Marking
• Slurry Surfacing
• Surface Treatment
• Flagger Certification
