Description

ABOUT MCS

MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) is the UK’s national quality mark for small-scale renewable technology, such as solar panels and heat pumps. We’re here to set standards and provide protection, giving consumers confidence to invest in renewable technologies to heat and power their homes and small businesses. Working with industry, MCS defines, maintains, and improves quality, by setting standards for low-carbon energy technology products, installers, and their installations.
Now is an exciting time to join MCS; especially as we plan to launch the redevelopment of the Scheme, which will have a greater focus on consumer protections, quality workmanship, and dispute resolution. 2024 was a record-breaking year for the small-scale renewables industry in terms of installation volumes and we look forward to continuing our vital role in driving forward the UK’s progress towards Net Zero.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR IN YOU:

We’re looking for someone who’s excited about making a difference in renewable energy and has practical experience in one or more of our renewable technologies. You might be a former installer, technical surveyor, or snagging inspector — perhaps you’ve worked for a renewable energy company, a housing developer, or delivered retrofit work under schemes like ECO4. If you’ve been hands-on with installations — whether fitting heat pumps, solar PV systems, or checking over completed work — we want to hear from you.
Specifically, we’re looking for someone who:
Loves solving problems – You enjoy digging into the detail, spotting what’s gone wrong, and figuring out how to fix it.
Has hands-on experience with one or more of our renewable technologies – You might have installed, designed, or worked with heat pumps or solar pv – and now you’re passionate about raising standards in the small scale renewable sector.
Is confident talking tech, but can keep it simple – Whether you’re chatting to an installer or explaining things to a homeowner, you know how to tailor your message and be on brand.
Doesn’t mind being out and about – This role is home-based but will see you travelling across your region and sometimes further afield, staying away from home too - to carry out site visits (a love of service stations and good snacks helps!).
Wants to be involved in the organisation - We want you to treat the office as your home – popping in unannounced if you’re in the area, or making time to visit if you’re not, is definitely encouraged.
Has an eye for detail – You notice the little things others might miss, and you’re not afraid to speak up when something doesn’t look right.
Is curious and eager to learn – You don’t need to have done assessments before – we’ll give you training. What’s more important is that you have in depth knowledge of at least one renewable technology, you’re keen to build your knowledge and you are passionate about getting the best outcomes for consumers and helping installers to provide the best customer experience
Is friendly and fair – You’ll be representing MCS on site, so you’ll need to be professional but approachable. We’re here to support and raise standards, not catch people out.
Believes in renewable energy and doing things right – If you’re passionate about quality, consumer protection, and doing your bit for Net Zero, you’ll fit right in.
If this sounds like you, we’d love to meet you!
