The Commercial and International Group at Leidos currently has an opening for a System Installation Technician – Ports and Borders Systems to work at Ports of Entry globally. This is an exciting position where you can use your experience installing and upgrading Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) systems for the US Department of Homeland Security and other like governments entities. Our mission is to travel to the customer site (generally a Port of Entry) and perform installation and testing of NII Leidos products. You must be team oriented and flexible, and actively seek to share information and assist one’s peers. Expect 100% weekly travel; primarily domestic, future international travel can be expected. Must be flexible to work days and nights. Possesses excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Demonstrates strong electronic repair troubleshooting methodology and maintains an expert technical level of product knowledge after training. Be ethical and professional, act with integrity.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current U.S. Citizen with valid U.S. Passport in hand by hire date.
  • HS degree or equivalent.
  • 2+ years’ experience in field or installation service environments
  • Must pass criminal background check, drug test and extensive credit check
  • Physically able to get in narrow spaces, climb ladders / stairs, and carry 50+ lbs. without assistance. Job requires frequent bending, stooping, twisting, turning, and working in unusual positions requiring full body mobility.
  • Must have a valid U.S. Driver’s License with Real ID.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Related Trade experience (electrical, mechanical)/ Military Training in electrical/electronic and mechanical systems. (Equivalence achieved through comparative work and life experience of 2 years of electrical or mechanical field service experience).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience directly involved in troubleshooting and repair of Field electrical and electronic systems and equipment.
  • Prior knowledge of X-ray equipment and systems a plus.
  • Individuals shall possess excellent communications skills and have a strong orientation for teamwork. Must be willing and able to travel on short notice.
  • Must be able to work safely and follow safety precautions in extreme environments (temperature, humidity, noise, confined spaces, etc.) around dangerous industrial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • 75% Travel required.
  • Network installation and configuration is a plus
  • PLC experience is a plus
  • Previous field electrical assembly experience
  • Software integration with electric/mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Installs and commissions Mid-Energy Portals (MEP) and Low Energy Portals (LEP), IP6500 Vehicle and Cargo Inspection Systems (VACIS) and Exploranium, Radiation Portal Monitor (RPM) systems.
  • Traveling to customer sites to perform installation, troubleshooting and repair of complex equipment and systems.
  • Performs a variety of maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer locations.
  • Support Engineering activities during Factory Acceptance testing.
  • Support Manufacturing activities when not on travel.
  • Ensures that tools and test equipment are properly maintained and calibrated.
  • Supporting Customers during Site Acceptance Testing.
  • Executing all task assigned by the team leader or manager diligently and on schedule.
  • Working with team members to achieve success during installations of equipment and systems.
  • Isolating equipment start-up malfunctions and taking corrective action.
  • Performing ad-hoc and predetermined work assignments with instructions.
  • May be called upon to work on equipment that has little or no documentation or training.
  • Following all established guidelines, procedures, and policies.
  • Assesses product/equipment performance based on experience and support data; recommends modifications or improvements to equipment, documentation, and operating processes.
  • Travel, overtime and work hours other than Monday-Friday may be required.
  • Willing to work on challenging international projects for short durations.
  • Work well with peers from various backgrounds to build effective work relationships.
