Instructional Designer Lead (Contract) Location: Livermore, CA (90% Hybrid) Job Type: Contract Position Duration: 9 Months Travel Requirements: Quarterly travel required, including visits to the Sierra region Occasional overnight travel may be needed for client meetings and project milestones Pay Range: $70,000 - $105,000 annually (with or without benefits) What You'll Do Design and develop technical apprenticeship training programs for Power Generation trades. Analyze training needs and recommend effective learning solutions. Work with learning and training teams to create training plans, curriculum, and assessments. Use learning technologies and tools to improve training effectiveness. Mentor and support Instructional Designers and ensure quality standards are met. Conduct quality reviews of training materials. Help estimate project costs and create project schedules. Manage projects to ensure work is completed on time and within budget. Lead project meetings, including kick-offs, pilot sessions, and train-the-trainer events. Present project updates and recommendations to stakeholders. Identify opportunities to improve training programs and processes. Measure training effectiveness and implement improvements. Maintain and archive course materials and complete project closeout tasks. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 5+ years of instructional design experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership or mentoring role. Experience designing classroom-based and technical/skilled trades training programs. Experience developing long-term technical training programs. Strong project management skills. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. Experience with MS Office, Articulate Storyline, video production, and web design tools. Preferred Qualifications Experience developing apprenticeship programs. Master's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or a related field. Experience in utilities, skilled trades, or similar industries. Familiarity with Questionmark, Author-It, MS Teams, and virtual learning platforms. Create technical learning materials, including participant guides, facilitator guides, hands-on activities, videos, assessments, simulations, and other training resources. Conduct detailed task analyses for job functions, business processes, and systems requiring training. Develop learning objectives and course structures that align with stakeholder needs and learning environment requirements. Follow established instructional design standards, templates, and processes under the guidance of the Senior Instructional Designer. Participate in project milestone meetings, including task analysis, alpha, beta, train-the-trainer, and pilot sessions. Collaborate with subject matter experts to review, validate, and refine training content. Required Qualifications 3+ years of experience developing instructor-led technical training programs, preferably within utilities or related industries. Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or a related field. Strong knowledge of instructional design principles and technical writing. Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams. Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet project deadlines independently. Strong collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts. Preferred Qualifications Experience in hydroelectric operations, construction, or heavy equipment operations. Master's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or a related field. Experience using QuestionMark, Author-It, and/or Articulate 360. Graphic design experience. Prior teaching or classroom instruction experience.
