Responsibilities

The Center for the Advancement of Teaching (CAT) at Florida State University seeks an Instructional Specialist I to manage FSU’s required teaching assistant (TA) training and to contribute to other professional development opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students at CAT. Responsibilities include managing the required training graduate students must complete to work as teaching assistants at FSU: facilitating the training; communicating with academic departments and other units about the training and related policies; collecting the training data and sharing it with the graduate school and registrar as needed; and other related duties. The instructional specialist will also contribute to providing optional professional development opportunities for TAs across disciplines: facilitating workshops and reading groups; doing consultations; providing feedback on course materials and teaching practices; etc. This colleague will regularly communicate with deans, chairs, directors, faculty, staff, and students across the university through presentations, advertisements, memos, emails, websites, etc. The instructional specialist will also contribute to our assessment efforts at CAT, including collecting data about our work with graduate students. This position may include opportunities to supervise graduate assistants at CAT, to contribute to providing awards and rewards for excellence in teaching at FSU, and to teach our one-credit pedagogy course for undergraduate students who work in our Learning Assistants program.
