Description:

Do you have experience and expertise in caring for people with health challenges? Are you interested in developing your teaching skills in a supportive and engaging learning environment? Cambria College is looking to hire an instructor to support our Health Care Assistant Program students in Victoria.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current unrestricted (i.e., no conditions on license or provisional registration) full registration as a licensed practical nurse, registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners (e.g., completion of Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent education or previous teaching experience with satisfactory references or positive performance evaluations37 and student course evaluations).
  • Two or more years of full-time Canadian nursing experience (1 year = 1400 work hours) with relevant knowledge of the Canadian health care system, the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members and current policies and procedures within residential and community care settings. Nursing experience must include previous work:
  • with older adults living with complex health needs;
  • in home support, and
  • in multi-level/complex care.
  • Evidence of completion of course work in Indigenous cultural safety and humility (e.g., San’yas Anti-Racism Indigenous Cultural Safety Training or an alternative training program).
  • Evidence of completion of the Health Care Assistant Practice in BC course available on the LearningHub as part of their orientation/on-boarding. This will support a current understanding of the role of the HCA within BC.

Responsibilities:

ROLE:

  • To share knowledge of HCA practice and create a safe, positive, and productive learning environment for students through the design, preparation, delivery, and evaluation of learning activities.
  • To engage in student-centered and up-to-date instructional activities.
  • To contribute to the educational, social, cultural, and recreational goals of the college.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • supporting students as they develop and master the competencies required to work as health care assistants in British Columbia.
  • developing and maintaining positive and collaborative relationships with staff and management at clinical partner sites
  • communicating and collaborating with the college instructional team to ensure high-quality program delivery

DUTIES:

  • ensure all instructional activities comply with the Private Training Institutions Branch and the BC HCA Program Provincial Curriculum
  • review and uphold the policies and procedures of the Cambria College Student Handbook
  • participate in curriculum review and revisions in collaboration with the program coordinator as needed
  • prepare and deliver instructional activities to students in a timely, clear, effective, and engaging manner
  • use established learning outcomes and rubrics to evaluate student work
  • provide timely, accurate, and constructive feedback to students
  • monitor students in the clinical setting to ensure they have a safe learning environment and are practicing ethical, safe, appropriate, and competent care; report and discuss all practice concerns to the Program Coordinator and Campus Director
  • submit weekly updates clinical updates to the Program Coordinator
  • hold regular consultations with students to support learning; design individualized learning plans as needed in collaboration with the program coordinator
  • identify, address, and manage all student issues as directed by the Cambria College Student Handbook; seek guidance from Program Coordinator and/or Campus Director for any repeat or serious violations of school or organizational policy
  • administer and grade all assignments, exams, and skills and coordinate and grade rewrites as required
  • ensure marks are finalized in alignment with college policies; follow college processes for receiving, completing, and submitting all paperwork
  • liaise with the Program Coordinator and Campus Director to schedule and prepare for upcoming class sessions
  • regularly evaluate personal instructional effectiveness and actively participate in regular performance reviews
  • ensure personal practice and knowledge are current and evidence-based
  • complete any additional duties that commensurate with the position
    Full-time/Part-time options available.
    Delivery hours: theory + lab are 9am to 230pm / clinical is typically 7am to 3pm
    Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
    Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour
