Responsibilities

Instructor Duties:

  • Teach assigned aquatic classes using established methods and procedures, following Red Cross and Lifesaving Society standards.
  • Screen patrons to determine their water safety level.
  • Monitor swimmers’ activities, ensuring policies, rules, and regulations are followed.
  • Prepare swimming lesson plans according to established procedures.
  • Evaluate students’ performance, maintain records of attendance, and complete report cards.
  • Communicate students’ progress to parents and caregivers.
  • Provide CPR and First Aid as needed.

Lifeguard Duties:

  • Monitor swimmers’ activities, ensuring policies, rules, and regulations are followed.
  • Warn swimmers of improper activities or hazards.
  • Rescue individuals in distress or danger of drowning, providing CPR and First Aid, and using safety/rescue equipment.
  • Screen patrons to determine their water safety level.
  • Maintain records and complete required reports.
  • Perform maintenance duties, including pool chemistry tests and pool fouling cleanup.
  • Notify supervisors of any accidents, rescues, or issues.
  • Ensure equipment is operational and stored properly after use.
  • Conduct routine change room checks and complete opening/closing safety checklists.

Other Duties:

  • Ensure compliance with Ontario Health Regulations and relevant legislation, as well as Policy and Procedures manuals.
  • Respond to aquatic emergency situations using safety/rescue equipment.
  • Participate in special events, water safety programs, emergency procedure training, and other training as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
