Description

The Meharry Medical College School of Medicine is seeking individual to fill an educator-track faculty position at the instructor level The non-tenure track Instructor will work in the Division of Clinical Skills as well as assisting in the teaching of the pathophysiology of diseases. Candidate should have experience in the practice of medicine and in medical education instruction of medical students. This position will mentor students in the Division of Clinical Skills and the Simulation Center and providing instruction in clinical examination. The instructor will also assist in designing and delivering clinical simulation and medical education curriculum. He/she will also closely work with other faculty to assist students establish and master clinical skills, critical thinking, technical skills and clinical diagnosis.

  • Applying diversified knowledge of clinical medicine, clinical skills, research principles, practices, and protocols in student training.
  • Participating in the management and instruction of the Principles & Practice of Medicine (PPM) courses:
  • Focusing on enhancing of students’ experience of the PPM courses and enhancing the development of the students’ clinical skill s
  • Assisting in the development and organization of interactive study sessions for students enrolled in basic medical science courses (e.g., anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, and pathology).
  • Providing structured review sessions focused on reinforcing key concepts, problem-solving techniques, study strategies and exam taking techniques.
  • Provide direct instruction to medical students in topics in clinical skills, physical diagnosis and simulation.
  • Develops clinical skills curriculum.
  • Assist in the teaching of the foundation of Health & Diseases management courses, especially on pathophysiology.
  • Assist Faculty in incorporating Physiologic concepts at the bedside in clinical skills.
  • Assist in grading OSCE’s.
  • Assist in course development and course content.
  • Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  • Maintain involvement in the activities of the Meharry Community
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of physical presentation of diseases.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of research methods and procedures.
  • Some knowledge of simulation.
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical skills.
  • Ability to provide instruction to medical students and residents.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to operate relevant electronic equipment and software.
  • Ability to handle confidential student data.
  • Ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff and other department personnel (standardized patients).
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to students and professional personnel in area of expertise.
  • Ability to utilize advanced analytical techniques and programs to develop scientific models.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Knowledge of research methodology, principles and procedures.
  • Ability to develop scientific reports and manuscripts based on original research

Education and Experience:

  • M.D. with at least 2 years of clinical experience. Must have completed an internship
