Instructor- Surgery Department Outreach Clinic Roysambu Speciality Entity Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi Location Nairobi, Kenya Introduction Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH, N) is a private not-for-profit teaching hospital that provides tertiary and secondary level healthcare services. It is one of the hospitals in East Africa accredited by the Joint Commission International from USA. The University Hospital has been providing high quality care for the people of East Africa and beyond for over 60 years. The Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi Outreach Division is a rapidly growing network of 55 medical centers spread over East Africa. These medical centers feature three to five consulting rooms with a practice that is home to qualified medical officers, highly-experienced nurses and constant reception cover. The clinics offer an on-site pharmacy and laboratory as well as radiology and sonography services. There is high expectation for staff to provide high quality professional services. Applications are invited from qualified candidates for the above position based in Nairobi Kenya. Responsibilities: Conduct General Surgical ward rounds. Review and examine patients consistently by performing such duties as taking case histories, conducting physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic laboratory and radiology studies. Monitor patients' progress on a regular basis. Conduct the General Surgery Clinics and perform procedures in the Day Surgery and Endoscopy Units in Outreach Facilities and in the Main Hospital under different levels of supervision as determined by the Supervisor Coordinate clinical services in the Day Surgery and Endoscopy Units in the Outreach Division Initiate discussions with patient and care givers to enable better diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services When on call or on duty, assist in the evaluation and management of emergency cases with both operative and non-operative measures in consultation with admitting doctor Attend to critical patients in a timely manner When necessary, carry out privileged and potentially life- saving emergency medical procedures. Requirements: Master of Medicine in Surgery or equivalent Bachelors of Surgery and Bachelors of Medicine Registration by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support(ATLS)
Responsibilities
The instructor will conduct general surgical ward rounds, review and examine patients, and monitor their progress. They will also coordinate clinical services in the Day Surgery and Endoscopy Units and assist in emergency cases.
