This is Gulf Stream. As an Instrument Operator, you will assist the party chief with survey layout, machine control issues, as-builts, topo’s, site calibrations, and other survey tasks. You will be required to setup Trimble GPS and total station equipment and must keep acceptable field notes. There will be some physical workload including hammering stakes/hubs and lifting of heavy GPS boxes. This position works under the party chief. Job Functions Operate surveying instruments including total stations, GPS units, and levels Assist in providing layout or light survey work which includes but is not limited to setting up instrument or hammering hubs and stakes. Measure distances, elevations, and angles accurately Set and maintain control points, benchmarks, and layout stakes Read and interpret plans, drawings, and specifications Communicate clearly with Party Chief, superintendents, and field crews Assist Party Chief with setting up or tearing down GPS Base Station, rover, controls on projects. Provide support to make sure GPS equipment stays operable. Maintain and care for survey equipment and tools Troubleshoot problems related to GPS equipment and correct. Update and maintain GPS files and software. Assist with other field tasks as needed to support project progress Requirements Education and Experience High School Education. Experience in construction layout, GPS Systems (Trimble preferred). Plan interpretation Responsibilities Assess urgency of a problem and prioritize accordingly. Confirm that GPS model mirrors design; advise of discrepancies and/or resolve with assistance from GPS Manager or Assistant GPS Manager. Make sure grades and setup are within acceptable tolerance.
