Description
Description About Us Ardent Process Technologies is on a mission to save the planet. We create technology to capture and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, avert global warming, and transform industry into a long-term sustainable enterprise. One membrane system at a time. We are expanding our team with ambitious, driven, creative problem solvers and doers who are excited about tackling a challenge and delivering a new product to market. We are looking for an experienced Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to develop and commission control systems for modular carbon capture skids as well as membrane manufacturing and testing equipment. The ideal candidate will be a generalist with resourcefulness and a bias for action – someone who is comfortable reviewing the network architecture for a large process plant and troubleshooting communication with a laboratory analyzer in the same afternoon. This role can be fully in-person, or hybrid. The ideal candidate will be in the office at least 2-3 days per week. What You Will Be Doing Lead the process controls design for field, lab and manufacturing systems Serve as the resident expert on process instrumentation, guiding sensor and valve selection across projects Review and advise on electrical and controls deliverables produced by Ardent’s engineering and manufacturing partners, including single line diagrams, detailed schematics, component selection, and PLC software Lead development of I/O lists and any required instrument installation procedures Support process engineering with PFD/P&ID development, process descriptions, cause and effect documents, and instrument datasheets Develop control, network and monitoring architectures and supporting documentation Develop PLC-based control algorithms and associated HMI screens for chemical processes, including fully automated, semi-automated and manual control modes Develop software for input and output processing of analog and digital signals Develop specifications for and support the selection of controllers, I/O cards, historians, network cards and remote access equipment Develop communication protocols for interfacing with facilities and third-party systems Support bump tests and loop checks for equipment and instruments Test and tune control loops for lab, manufacturing and field systems Implement and test alarms and interlocks included in safety systems Travel to sites where systems are built and/or deployed to support FAT, commissioning and troubleshooting of electrical and control systems What You Will Bring to the Table 5+ years of experience developing control systems for industrial processes Experience commissioning process equipment and instruments including compressors, pumps, VFDs, flow meters, pressure/temperature/level sensors, control valves and analyzers Track record of delivering systems running in the field and/or on the manufacturing line with high reliability Aptitude for problem solving, resourcefulness, and collaboration with cross-functional teams Strong understanding of control systems theory and application Experience programming Siemens, Allen Bradley or similar PLC platform Experience with network communication protocols such as Modbus or EtherCAT Bonus Points Prior experience in process or chemical engineering Prior experience in a startup environment Experience productizing modular skidded systems Experience with gas or liquid separation process technologies Experience generating electrical schematics and selecting electrical equipment Experience with functional safety per IEC 61508 and/or design for hazardous locations Experience with model-based control systems Salary and Benefits Compensation for this role is $115k-$150k annually, and will be based on experience. A brief summary of our main benefits include: Flex working schedule Medical, dental and vision benefits 3 weeks of PTO and 8 paid holidays Small, awesome team in an innovative start-up environment At our company, we take great pride in cultivating an inclusive and discrimination-free workplace. Extensive research indicates that individuals from underrepresented backgrounds often hesitate to apply for positions unless they fulfill every single job requirement. However, we firmly believe that fostering a diverse range of experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds enriches our work environment. We encourage you to apply, even if you do not meet every requirement listed.
