JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to support the design and integration of control systems for multi-discipline engineering projects. Operating in Calgary’s dynamic environment, the successful candidate will manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality project deliverables.
The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer will play a critical role in translating practical concepts into fully functional, commission-ready systems

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs
  • Prior experience in sweet and sour gas projects, heavy oil, pipeline within an EPCM environment.
  • Canadian exposure to heavy oil or sweet and sour gas facility design and construction, pipelines and communication systems.
  • Experience with greenfield design, brownfield design, FEED, Construction Work Packages, RFIs, Requisitions.
  • Familiarity with industry as well as client specifications, codes, and regulatory requirements.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, or Control Systems Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 10+ years of experience in instrumentation and controls engineering, preferably in the oil and gas or industrial sectors.
  • Competence in control system design and review software and tools such as AutoCAD, NavisWorks, Bluebeam and various vendor sizing software.
  • Experience with programming and configuring PLC/DCS systems from vendors like Rockwell, Siemens, or Emerson.
  • Experience with measurement and control devices (transmitters, valves, etc) and datasheets.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards (e.g., ISA, API, CSA).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Experience with SPI would be an asset.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration with APEGA is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed design packages for instrumentation and control systems, including specifications, datasheets, and drawings.
  • Create and Review I & C engineering documentation including:
  • Control Architecture / Communication Network drawings
  • LOOP drawings / IO schematics / IO lists
  • Shut down keys
  • Control narratives
  • Logic Diagrams
  • P&ID development
  • Instrument Datasheets
  • Perform instrument selection, sizing, and procurement to meet project and industry standards.
  • Design and implement control system architectures, including PLC/DCS systems and HMI configurations.
  • Collaborate with multi-discipline teams to ensure seamless integration of instrumentation and controls into overall project designs.
  • Conduct site visits to assess existing systems and support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Prepare technical reports, studies, and documentation to support project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
