BWXT Medical is hiring an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer at our production facility in Kanata, ON.
Work Location: On-Site - 447 March Road, Kanata

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Identifies, plans and carries out, or is responsible for the performance of, necessary research, design and development associated with assigned projects.
  • Prepares concepts and solutions to technical problems.
  • Gains stakeholder consensus on scope of work and prepares estimates including direct and indirect costs and schedule.
  • Provides Project Leads with Project Management and Technical oversight.
  • Provides direction and work instructions to assigned staff on projects.
  • Assists with high value equipment and systems procurement.
  • Coordinates tasks with others, both internal to and outside of the company in order to achieve project objectives.
  • Provides technical assistance to others, including the assessment of impact of changes to the validated state of products and technical justifications in support of quality dispositions.
  • Is assigned the role as Technical Authority to establish product and process requirements and to authorize changes and to approve procedures, technical reports and drawings.
  • May perform hands on technical tasks for new projects.
  • May represent the Company on committees, boards, panels, study groups and/or commissions -national and international.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors degree in Science or Engineering, or completion of a post- secondary education that qualifies for a professional designation, plus at least 5 years of relevant technical experience. In some cases, professional certifications will be considered an asset.
  • Must have a detailed technical knowledge within an engineering specialty - Instrumentation & Controls, Mechanical and/or Chemical and have a good knowledge of other related disciplines and a general appreciation of peripheral fields.
  • Have a demonstrated capacity to lead and motivate co-workers in project related activities.
  • Experience with computer system validations; knowledge of 21 CFR part 11; PLC programming and troubleshooting, ideally with Allen Bradley an/or Siemens.
  • HMI/SCADA programing experience ideally with FactoryTalk View, WnCC or Ignition.
  • Experience integrating automated equipment or systems into manufacturing environment including design, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and support of automated equipment.
  • Programming Experience with Ladder Logic, SQL Server, machine vision.
  • Experience with QA systems would be an asset.
  • Experience with Fanuc, Motoman robots would be an asset.
Responsibilities

Performs and is responsible for varied engineering, scientific or applied scientific functions is the design, development, testing and commissioning of company products. Has responsibility for the overall execution (budget and schedule) technical performance of development projects or developed processes. Performs review and approval of process changes as Technical Design Authority.
