Governance and Risk Division Part-time (50%), fixed term position until February 2027 Base salary will be in the range $115,645 - $129,654 full-time equivalent + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 8) (Salary is pro-rata for part-time appointments) Based at the picturesque St Lucia Campus About This Opportunity The University of Queensland is seeking an experienced Insurance Claims Manager to join the Governance and Risk Division. In this role, you will provide specialist support to UQ Insurance Services, managing insurance claims across a diverse and complex risk environment, with a specific focus on liability claims. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and external insurers, brokers, and legal advisors to ensure timely, compliant, and best-practice claims outcomes. This is an opportunity to contribute to strong governance and risk management within one of Australia’s leading universities, in a supportive and values-driven environment. This is a part-time (0.5 FTE), fixed term position. Flexible working arrangements may be negotiated (e.g. hours spread across 5 days per week or across 5 days per fortnight, and/or partial working from home). Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Provide expert guidance to UQ Legal and other internal stakeholders on actual and potential liability insurance claims and policy requirements, and support claimants submitting personal accident claims. Identify, notify, and actively manage insurance claims end-to-end, liaising with insurers, brokers, UQ Legal, and internal stakeholders to achieve optimal outcomes. Maintain accurate and up-to-date claim records, including timely closure of completed claim files. Partner with relevant stakeholders to improve UQ’s risk profile through claims insights, monitoring liability insurance wordings, and supporting annual insurance renewal activities. Experience working in a higher education provider or comparable complex environment will be highly advantageous (but not essential). Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with stakeholders, to prioritise and manage own workload, work proactively and independently, and consistently meet deadlines. A positive and enthusiastic approach and demonstrated commitment to achieving outcomes, including through effective cross-portfolio collaboration. Well-developed analytical and evaluation skills. Sound knowledge of personal accident and a range of liability insurance products and the processing of liability insurance claims (or the demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge) and the ability to accurately interpret insurance policy wordings and apply them to complex legal claims. Strong knowledge of legal and insurance principles and practice. Experience as a liability claims manager will be highly regarded. The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, conduct concerning gender-based violence, criminal check, education check.
