Make a Difference We are seeking a candidate to fill the role of Bureau Chief in our Insurance Policy Compliance (“Forms”) Bureau. The successful candidate will be responsible for the practical, supervisory and administrative performance necessary to safeguard insurance policies offered in the State of Montana. The ability to effectively manage department workload and team members is required. The primary goal of the Forms team is to ensure all insurance products issued in the state meet statutory requirements designed to offer protection for Montana consumers and to foster a fair and competitive insurance market. This position requires an understanding of the insurance industry and relevant Montana laws and regulations specific to insurance policy requirements and disclosures. This is an on-site position located in Helena, Montana. What you will do The successful candidate will be responsible for the following essential functions and other similar tasks: Effective Workload Management: Monitor insurance policy intake, processing and review completion to achieve compliance with regulatory and department goals and requirements. As needed, evaluate the need for changes in processes and priorities to develop best practices. Department Supervision: Oversee day-to-day operations of the Forms department, guiding the team toward increased efficiency and effectiveness. Mentor the department lead and staff in managing workflows, maintaining quality standards and realizing meaningful value in compliance activities. Insurance Contract and Form Review: Assist in timely completion of forms filing reviews when needed Statutory and Regulatory Interpretation: Provide input to CSI management regarding the development of insurance legislation and regulations as well as recommendations for financial examinations of captive insurance companies. Communication and Collaboration: Engage in and foster open communication and collaboration with members of the Insurance Services Bureau and CSI Executive Management to promote informed decision-making and agency effectiveness. Staff Development: Identify opportunities and mechanisms to provide team members with needed and desired development opportunities. Technical Reading and Writing: As needed, prepare written communications, analytical summaries, and memorandums that are professional, complete and accurate. Program and Legislative Support: Offer expertise as needed and requested to support CSI strategic and operational objectives and support of the bi-annual legislative process. Provide input to CSI management regarding the development of insurance legislation and regulations. Professional Growth: Attend insurance conferences and training events. Take the initiative to enhance industry knowledge and make professional contacts. Analysis: Analyze department and external data to drive informed decision-making. Collect and manage data and reporting, and identify trends. Ideal Candidate Profile and Competencies We are looking for candidates who bring the following education, experience, and competencies: Education: A bachelor’s degree in business, public administration or a related field of study. Certification: Recognized industry credentials or insurance regulator designations will be considered with preference for the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Health Insurance Associate (HIA), Association Professional in Insurance Regulation (APIR), or Professional in Insurance Regulation (PIR). Experience: Four years of insurance compliance experience. Management or supervisory experience is preferred. Regulatory Expertise: Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply Montana statutes and administrative rules to evaluate compliance. Analytical Skills: Keen attention to detail and data analysis abilities. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including effective business writing, spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, industry professionals, and the public. Stakeholder Focus: Strong stakeholder focus, attention to detail, and follow-through. Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills and effective time management, flexibility, and multi-tasking abilities.
