Description
Position Summary: The incumbent will report to the Abuse Supervisor. The Intake/Abuse Worker is responsible for screening and assessing referrals to the program, investigation allegations of child abuse, providing crisis intervention services, completing the written documentation, and providing related services under the mandate of the Child and Family Services Authorities Act. Some Duties include: Investigation of all child abuse referrals/allegations received by the agency. Intakes and referrals: Create Safety Plans with family to mitigate risks in the home. If apprehension is necessary, coordinate with the Alternative Care Department to have them in appropriate and/or available placements. Initiates referrals to other community collaterals as appropriate. Ensuring follow-up to intake issues and needs. Transfer ongoing services. Particitaylpates in monthly Child Abuse Committee meetings to update community collaterals on ongoing abuse investigations. Completes written reports, file recordings, forms, and correspondence as required. Assist case worker(s) with resolving program and/or family conflict. Ensure the worker has developed a suitable plan with the family that has addressed the conflicts/issues. Maintain accurate documentation on CFSIS and Intake Module as required. Ensure all services provided are in compliance with Provincial standards, regulations and the Child and Family Services Act of Manitoba and reflect the values, traditions and customs of the community. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: S.W., B.A., or Child & Family Services Diploma and/or equivalent combination of education and training/experience in a related field of service. Minimum of two-years’ experience working in a child welfare setting and/or a related field of study. Demonstrated skills in the areas of crisis intervention, child protection investigations, and assessing high risk situations which require immediate response. Knowledge of collateral services/community resources and how to access. Ability to work effectively under pressure and superintend workload in a team environment. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, time management, and organizational skills. Must have a valid Manitoba Drivers License, access to a vehicle and willing to travel. Must pass Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, and Child Abuse Registry Check. Ability to speak and/or understand the Ojibway language would be an asset. Knowledge and respect of First Nations traditional culture and traditional philosophy.
