THE ROLE At Kyabra, the Intake and Assessment team is responsible for providing an initial point of contact for community members who present to the organisation for assistance. The Intake and Assessment Worker will respond to enquiries from the community, particularly those that relate to housing and homelessness support. This position will work in conjunction with the Manager, Coordinator and other team members, and be primarily responsible for: Initial needs identification and assessments for community members who contact the organisation. Initial support, assistance and advocacy for relevant community members who are at risk of homelessness and/or are experiencing housing instability. Relevant information and appropriate referral pathways (either internally or externally) to community members, including brief/short-term intervention work if/when required. This position will primarily undertake initial phone-based intake and assessment functions, however, some centre-based and outreach work may be required. Hours of Work The successful candidate will have the option to work a maximum of 60h 00m per fortnight (i.e. 4 days per week) OR a minimum of 42h 00m per fortnight (i.e. 3 days per week). Flexible working arrangements will be considered e.g. shorter days across a 5-day work week. REQUIREMENTS Qualifications & Training Tertiary qualification (bachelor's degree or higher) in human services and/or another relevant field. Skills, Knowledge & Experience Demonstrated experience working in an intake and assessment environment i.e. being the first point of contact for community members seeking support, assessing their circumstances, making appropriate referrals internally or externally, and assisting where possible. Demonstrated understanding of issues/barriers facing community members, including ways to resolve or improve these issues and empower community members, particularly as it relates to tenancy sustainment, housing instability or being at risk of homelessness. Demonstrated understanding of the Residential Tenancy Act and other relevant human services legislation. Understanding of, and commitment to, the principles of social justice, as well as a demonstrated capacity to work in ways that focus on people’s strengths. Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, including an ability to work autonomously or as part of a team, and adapt to various circumstances as necessary to support the organisation and/or community members. History Checks & Clearances The successful applicant will be required to apply for certain mandatory Personal and Criminal History Checks. This position is required to hold a current/satisfactory/positive result for the following: Blue Card (Working with Children Check) LCS2 (Personal and Criminal History Check) NDIS Worker Screening A valid open driver’s license (Queensland) Note, it is an offence for a disqualified person to sign off on a Blue Card application form. Desirable Knowledge of the housing and homeless sector and/or financial support systems. Demonstrated experience in the use of client management systems (e.g. SRS, QHIP) and the ability to rapidly learn new systems and/or other databases. Existing professional networks and/or the ability to rapidly build relevant industry connections.
