JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Intake Coordinator will politely greet all clients first entering Vagabond and conduct an initial intake and assessment for each new client. The Intake Coordinator will determine each client’s needs, linking them accordingly to the appropriate service provider at the Center and provide general case management over the counter. The Intake Coordinator will maintain order of client’s files and collect progress notes from each service provider that assisted the client in a main file or in a computerized database. The position incumbent will also be responsible for the entire client waiting room and reception area, handling incoming calls, telephone referrals, etc.
This position will require an individual to be able to work in a fast-paced environment both quickly and efficiently and in a client-centered manner. This individual must be a team player as they will be part of a team of service providers from various agencies under one roof.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, but are not limited to the following:
Screen, interview and evaluate the needs of all clients.
Assist clients with information and referral and general case management.
Provide linkage to appropriate service providers within the Center and maintain schedule of services available.
Maintain accurate case files for all clients served.
Responsible for keeping the reception area orderly and comfortable.
Answer all phones and other light clerical tasks as required.
Mediate conflict, crisis intervention and client de-escalation as needed.
Help develop maintain and monitor data collection methods, including a computerized database.
Work closely with and train volunteers.
Maintain order in the client waiting area.
Reports for work as scheduled.
Works effectively with co-workers, customers, and others by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner; listening to and objectively considering the ideas and suggestions from others; keeping commitments; keeping others informed of work progress, timetables, and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical business solutions; addressing others by name, title or other respectful identifier, and respecting the diversity of our work force in actions, words and deeds.
And other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Must be empathetic and have excellent patience and listening skills.
Knowledge of social service, welfare, legal, corrections, health care, substance abuse, alcoholism, mental health care, and other systems associated with target population, as well as the geographical areas.
Clear, complete speech and communication skills.
Ability to advocate successfully on behalf of the client.
Experience working with the formerly homeless population, or low-income individuals and/or families desirable.
Computer literacy.
Bilingual fluency in English/Spanish a plus.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Associate’s degree in social services preferred, or two (2) years of relevant social service experience required.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Sitting and standing for long periods of time, walking, stooping, and bending.
Ability to move to various physical locations in the complex.
Ability to see, hear and talk clearly to receive instructions and to give instructions.
Complex reading skills, complex writing skills, judgment, and decision-making capability.
Ability to be self-directed in work and work well with others as part of a case-work team.
Work indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.
Ability to work well under highly stressful conditions, to interact with needy participants, to set realistic goals, to establish healthy boundaries.
Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
High level concentration and attention to detail for extended periods of time required.
Ability to quickly organize and communicate thoughts and to understand communications from others.
