Description We're growing! Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, is hiring for an Intake & Resource Counselor. The Intake and Resource Counselor’s role is to interface with the public who are considering rehoming their pet. Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 9AM - 6 PM Essential Job Duties: Provides compassionate care to all animals in the shelter Counsels families who are thinking of rehoming their pets about alternate solutions, including self-rehoming, behavior or medical intervention or other programs as available. Works closely with the behavior department and clinic to help keep pets in homes Schedules animal admissions for Lollypop Farm through the admissions appointment request system and by monitoring and maintaining the admission’s phone line with the goal of connecting directly to clients; returns messages to any client who left a message within one hour during normal working hours Counsels customers who are surrendering their pets to the shelter. Ensure accuracy of recorded information and process paperwork to admit animals to the shelter Exercises patience and tact when working with the community Assists with evaluating animals for placement, including recording and handling for canine behavior evaluations Provides overall animal maintenance—supplies animals with food and water, cleans cages, kennels and litter boxes Maintains sanitary conditions for animals and work areas Assists with euthanasia as necessary Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable state/ federal laws Observes all safety rules and regulations for self and others Performs other duties as requested Requirements Education & Experience: High School diploma or equivalent education. Minimum 1 year of animal experience and 1 year of customer service experience strongly preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered if aligned with the position. Skills: Ability to interpret and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts. Must possess the ability to understand detailed and involved instructions and to apply common sense to carry out instructions, as well as the ability to deal with problems involving few concrete variables in standardized situations. Strong animal handling skills, including handling aggressive animals and using protective equipment such as catch-poles, cat nets, etc. required. Intermediate computer skills; ability to learn internal software. Ability to operate animal chip scanner, dishwasher, washer and dryer, power washer, cash register, and floor machine, as well as use cleaning supplies. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position during shift, move throughout the building and move weight up to 20 pounds. Frequently required to communicate with others. Occasionally required to move excessive weight.
