Responsibilities

YOUR FUTURE ROLE

As a future IT/IP legal advisor in the Open Technology & IP Counseling team, which is part of SAP’s global IP team, you will advise various SAP departments on IP matters and ensure that these align with SAP’s IP strategy. Your tasks will include consulting, reviewing, and negotiating publicly funded projects on both German and European levels. You will provide legal advice on open technologies, such as participation in standardization organizations or support in founding such organizations. In the field of open technologies, your responsibilities will also include collaboration with SAP’s Open Source Office, supporting the legal review of open source requests and policies, as well as assisting in the negotiation of OSS clauses.
Another component will be advising and negotiating IP rights, for example, in the labor law context. Additionally, you will participate in further developing the IP compliance system, particularly negotiating issues or contracts related to confidentiality and trade secrets.
You will be responsible for creating process documentation, training materials, and internal portal content, carrying out process improvement initiatives, and managing internal projects and processes. You should keep yourself updated on the latest legal regulations in the IP area, such as AI, and apply this knowledge in legal counselling.
Your role will support SAP’s corporate goals by balancing legal risks with commercial objectives and ensuring compliance with SAP’s policies and processes. Furthermore, you are expected to efficiently handle research and administrative tasks.

The ideal candidate for the IT/IP Legal Counsel role within the OTIP team at SAP should possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Fully qualified lawyer in Germany.
  • Experience of minimum 5 yrs. in counselling on IP/IT matters in a law firm in the field of IP law or in the legal department of an IT company or environment.
  • Fluent in both German and English.
  • Assertive and convincing personality with a high level of commitment and flexibility.
  • Hands-on, open-minded personality with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent presentation and writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and legal professionals and to work collaboratively in a diverse team.
  • Capacity to provide timely and sound legal advice with an appropriate business perspective to the internal client base.
