Description Job Summary The Business Development Officer fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by planning, guiding, and evaluating the school’s development efforts and Corporate Internship Program, including fundraising, marketing, event planning, grant writing, communications, recruitment of new sponsorships, alumni relations, and public relations. The Business Development Officer has decision-making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies. The Business Development Officer provides and retains revenue-generating job placements for SJD students at organizations aligned with the school’s values and stewards relationships with corporate partners. This role requires strong skills in communication, people management, project management, financial acumen, presentation, and strategic thinking and execution. The position is hired and evaluated by the President. Ministerial Character Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin are canonically obedient to the Bishop and assist him in fulfilling his ministry and canonical obligations. Pastors, presidents, and principals serve as leaders of the schools to make Christ's mission present and enduring in the schools. In order to fulfill Christ's mission, the school leaders employ suitable, chosen collaborators, sharing with them Christ's mission and entrusting to them various responsibilities. Positions employed in this School help extend the ministry of the School leaders in particular ways as outlined in the job description. The employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the School leaders in the performance of their ministry and, therefore, engages in ministry for the Church. Essential Duties Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and the policies and procedures of the school and Diocese Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters Plans the overall development program in keeping with school needs, the Strategic Plan, and budget objectives Collaborates effectively with the Principal, Development Committee, school associations, committee chairs, and volunteers Oversees Development staff to ensure effective and efficient practices and customer-focused work habits Ensures effective work practices in financial accounting and reconciliation, database management, gift recording, donor acknowledgment, and stewardship Maintains records on current and prospective donors Ensures practices are in compliance with school, Diocesan, city, county, and state regulations Communicates effectively with faculty and staff and keeps them informed of upcoming development activities Meets staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese and/or local administration Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits Collaborates with others to enhance the work environment Confers with others upon request and responds to messages in a timely manner Demonstrates progress toward development goals and objectives aligned with the Strategic Plan and budget objectives, and shows a willingness to respond to program needs Serves as a member of the Endowment Committee, as requested Attends and participates, as needed, in faculty meetings and professional and community organizations Manages a portfolio of Corporate Internship Program (CIP) partner relationships Manages all aspects of partnerships within the portfolio in a solution-oriented and supportive manner, demonstrating excellent customer service to partners and students, and actively seeking opportunities to deepen professional relationships Serves as an external representative for the Corporate Internship Program at community and partner events; when opportunities arise, engages in speaking events at partner sites and/or supports the President in doing so Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church Knowledge of a broad range of development activities and development software Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms Ability to work well with others in the school community and as part of a team, as well as independently in a fast-paced environment Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously Skill in organizing, analyzing, and presenting information in an understandable format Proficiency with job-appropriate technology and tools Skill in critical thinking, planning, coordination, scheduling, attention to detail, and organization Excellent facilitation and public speaking skills Comfort and confidence in networking and cultivating strong professional relationships, with experience in customer relationship management Strong customer service skills, including the ability to work effectively with a range of corporate partners Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in education, business, leadership, or related field Experience: Development or related field preferred Certifications and Training: Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 60 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment.
