JOB DESCRIPTION

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for overseeing all laboratory operations within the facility. Working closely with Administration, this role ensures resources are used efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of patient care. The Laboratory Manager collaborates with physicians, staff, consultants, and outside organizations to support quality services and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology.
  • Clinical Laboratory Science certification.
  • Successful completion of required technologist certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform medical laboratory procedures in accordance with policies and protocols.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Two (2) years of experience as a supervisor in a clinical laboratory of a hospital, health department, university, medical research institution, or in a clinical laboratory providing training acceptable to GDHR.
  • Experience with CAP accreditation.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate laboratory programs and services in alignment with current standards of practice and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, update, and enforce laboratory policies, procedures, and daily operations.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate laboratory staff, ensuring quality performance and adherence to policies.
  • Maintain quality assurance and infection control programs to promote safety and compliance.
  • Manage laboratory schedules and staffing to meet patient needs and budgetary guidelines.
  • Coordinate services across departments and collaborate with physicians and community agencies.
  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing staff education.
  • Support positive employee relations, teamwork, and effective communication.
  • Monitor equipment, records, and laboratory results to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Lead budget development, cost analysis, and fiscal accountability for the department.
  • Prepare the laboratory for inspections and participate in survey readiness, corrective action plans, and follow-up.
  • Address and resolve patient or family concerns related to laboratory services.
  • Actively participate in Quality Assurance committee activities and compliance monitoring.
  • Ensure staff are trained in safety, fire, disaster, and emergency protocols.
  • Oversee research, development, and implementation of new laboratory procedures.
  • Compile reports, analyze performance data, and contribute to special projects as needed.
