About the role  With Matt transitioning to the Director Customer & Performance role, we are seeking a leader to undertake the position as Interim Director City Liveability from 20 April 2026 to 31 July 2026, while the recruitment process is underway for a permanent replacement. This opportunity is available to existing Directors and Managers within the organisation.  Reporting to the CEO, the Acting Director City Liveability is an exciting Senior Leadership opportunity that forms part of ELT and leads a diverse portfolio of teams, projects, programs and services with the common goal of shaping the future of the City and its economic, environmental and social sustainability. The Director leads the following portfolio of services: * City Futures: Economic Development, City Strategy, Sustainable Futures and Research & Geospatial Analytics (RAGA) * City Planning & Building: Statutory Planning, Planning Investigations, Subdivisions and VCAT Representation * City Projects: Knox Central program, including planning for future Council and community facilities and the transformation of Council’s landholdings within Knox’s principal activity centre * City Safety & Health: Community Laws (Including School Crossings, Parking Enforcement and Animal Management), Health Services (Including Immunisation programs), Statutory Building Approvals & Enforcement (Temporary), Emergency Management, Prosecutions and Business Support & Improvement * City Liveability Directorate Office: Executive Assistant and Directorate Business Improvement and change functions.  During this period, the Acting Director will be required to: * Actively participate as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Senior Leadership Team, including attendance at relevant meetings and incorporate the organisation’s values into their leadership and all programs and activities * Attend all Council Meetings, Issues Briefing Meetings and relevant Committee Meetings to represent the Directorate and support the Council and Councillors, CEO and ELT, along with answering Councillor and public questions * Provide support and direction to the City Liveability Leadership team and all people leaders and team members * Demonstrate strong leadership, direction and people management competencies, with an understanding of the Directorate’s functions, to drive the required business outcomes * Represent City Liveability at a number of internal and external meetings and forums and engage with a range of stakeholders external to the organisation, including government departments, agencies and elected representatives * Oversee the progress of a number of projects and programs in the short term, including state level reforms in the planning and building systems and resulting service impacts, Knox Central facilities engagement, Kingston Links/Bankside developer agreements and land sale, Local Laws Review, Climate Response Plan Mid-term review, and more! * Lead and support ongoing programs such as the Employee Engagement Survey actions, Customer First Strategy implementation, Financial and risk management, Audit and Risk Committee, Pathway (Infor) Steering Committee and sponsorship, Enterprise Agreement, etc * Ensure that business reporting requirements are met within required timeframes.
