We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Interim Director, Shared Services to lead a high-performing team of 50+ professionals in a dynamic shared services environment. This role is critical in ensuring timely and accurate payroll for field employees and billing for a diverse customer base including government agencies, hospitals, insurance providers, and consumers. The Interim Director, Shared Services will oversee operational setup for new and ad hoc programs, ensure compliance with reporting and audit requirements, and partner closely with the controllership team to ensure accurate revenue recognition. This role also includes oversight of certain collections processes and requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities • Partnering with divisions and senior leadership on issue resolution and strategic approaches • Strategy development, alignment, and guidance to the team • Coaching, employee development, and engagement • Oversight of new programs, rate changes, and system updates • Managing audits, special issues, and office operations Billing & Payroll Operations • Ensure accurate and timely payroll for field employees and precise billing to customers, including government agencies, hospitals, insurers, and consumers • Lead a 50+ person team through automation, efficiency improvements, and compliance adherence • Manage employee and client data set-up, rate changes, and new program implementations • Support audit readiness, funding reconciliations, and revenue recognition practices in partnership with Controllership Finance Operations • Oversee strategic finance initiatives, including Order-to-Bill, Service Request Management, and shared services transformation People Leadership & Culture • Build, mentor, and lead a diverse team • Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement • Provide vision and strategic alignment across the Billing, Payroll, and Finance Operations teams • Champion innovation, technology adoption, and a performance-driven mindset Knowledge, Skills & Technical Abilities • Proven leadership in managing large teams and people managers • Strategic thinker with a solution-oriented mindset • Strong collaboration and business partnering skills • Deep understanding of systems and automation opportunities • High energy, self-motivated, and disciplined executor • Excellent communication and accountability skills • Comfortable working under tight deadlines and rolling up sleeves • Experience managing processes in high-growth environments Management Scope • 4–6 direct reports, 50 indirect reports • Oversight of a hybrid workforce, including team members outside Ontario • Building cross-functional relationships across departments and business units • Ensuring efficiency and effectiveness of shared services functions Work Location : Bayshore Healthcare, Shared Service Centre, St. Catharines ON Hybrid – At least 2 days onsite weekly Experience Required • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience • Experience in operational process improvement in growth companies • Expertise in payroll systems, billing operations, and compensation • Solid understanding of accounting principles related to payroll and revenue • Proficiency in MS Office, advanced Excel, and reporting tools • Experience in procurement, RFPs, contracts, and project management • Industry experience in government healthcare, hospitals, insurance, long-term care, and direct-to-consumer billing • Familiarity with third-party billing systems and legislation Education & Qualifications • University degree required • Degree or diploma in a recognized Payroll/Accounting program • Accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA, CA) preferred Problem Solving & Decision Making This role requires independent problem-solving within established procedures and industry practices. Decisions typically include operational setup for new programs, resolution of billing and payroll discrepancies, strategic process improvements, and escalation of complex issues to senior leadership.
