POSITION SUMMARY:

Instructional coaches will support grade K-4 staff in the use of research based instructional practices. Coaches support K-4 staff in the development, implementation, assessment, and refinement of a rigorous elementary curriculum; aligned to MA Curriculum Frameworks to improve student outcomes. Coaches support both horizontal and vertical alignment of standards and practices across grade levels and content areas, in collaboration with coordinators.

KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND PERSONAL QUALITIES:

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills (communication, problem-solving, collegiality, collaboration) to share research based instructional approaches with teachers and administrators and provide mentoring/coaching
  • Leadership style that encourages teamwork and personal responsibility
  • Strong understanding of the MA Curriculum Frameworks
  • Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Minimum five (5) years teaching experience
  • MA license pertinent to position
  • Master’s Degree
  • SEI endorsed

Responsibilities
  • Serve as an ambassador for best practices, instructional leadership, and curriculum initiatives of the district
  • Engage teachers in coaching cycles to refine instructional practices and plan lessons that align with the state content standards and school goals
  • Establish sustainable structures with teachers to support peer modeling of research-based instructional strategies and provide the opportunity for follow-up and feedback on a regular basis (i.e. teacher-to-teacher instructional practice observations with debrief, learning walks)
  • Support teachers when giving common assessments or benchmarks, and assist in effective and relevant data collection
  • Guide teachers to collect and analyze data and develop action plans in response to determined student needs
  • Participate as a rotating member of the ILTs at the Elementary Schools
  • Participate in district-wide coaching training and continue to develop professionally in research-based instructional strategies
  • Facilitate peer-to-peer classroom visits for professional learning or as part of a coaching cycle
  • Facilitate professional learning opportunities for teachers under guidance of curriculum coordinator
  • Serve as an active participant in the adoption and implementation of district-wide curricular materials and resources.
  • Support ongoing curriculum development: developing, updating, and supporting curriculum mapping and assessments under guidance of curriculum coordinator
  • Lead teachers in learning walks for job embedded professional development. Additionally, conduct learning walks with building administrators to showcase high quality teaching and learning.
