ABOUT VWJ EARTHMOVING & AGGREGATES

VWJ Earthmoving & Aggregates is a well-established, growing business based in Crewe, operating in the earthmoving, aggregates and haulage sectors. We are now investing in strengthening our internal finance function to support continued growth and operational efficiency.
To assist with this, we’re looking to bring in an experienced Interim Finance Manager for a one-month contract to help refine systems, support our accounts team, and ensure everything is aligned for the months ahead.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

We’re looking for someone who brings a balance of technical ability and practical problem-solving. You should have:

  • 5+ years in finance or accounting roles (e.g. Finance Manager, Senior Bookkeeper, Financial Controller)
  • Proven experience with SME finance operations and reconciliations
  • Solid working knowledge of Sage
  • A proactive, independent approach — able to take initiative and deliver results
  • Excellent communication skills, especially when following up on outstanding invoices
  • (Advantageous) Experience in the haulage, construction, aggregates, or waste industries
  • (Bonus) AAT, ACCA, or CIMA part/full qualification
Responsibilities

This is a hands-on role for someone who can quickly assess, implement, and improve finance processes within an SME environment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting a structured review of current financial processes and systems
  • Reconciling key accounts (bank, supplier, customer, etc.)
  • Organising and refining the chart of accounts and general ledger setup
  • Reviewing use of accounting SAGE software to ensure it’s clean and accurate
  • Providing support, guidance, and oversight to the accounts assistant
  • Liaising with our external accountant to ensure all records are aligned
  • Managing credit control, including following up on outstanding customer balances in a professional, consistent manner
  • Helping establish processes to improve cash flow visibility and debtor tracking
