Purpose
Are you a storyteller who wants to effect positive social change in a cultural organisation? We are looking for an experienced marketer and communicator with a track record of delivering simultaneous projects and campaigns for a charitable organisation with a varied programme of exhibitions and events.
If you are looking to lead a team to drive engagement online with the aim of increasing footfall to our sites, this may be the role for you. Our Marketing and Communications team balances multiple audiences throughout the year at each of our museums and combines traditional marketing methods with a digital approach.
Supporting the strategic objectives of Lakeland Arts, this role will work alongside Curatorial, Fundraising and Commercial teams to build on our reputation for offering exceptional cultural experiences for all audiences.
The role requires a balance of methodical planning and enough agility to adequately respond to ever changing issues that impact a cultural organisation like ours.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the implementation of our Marketing and Communications strategy and action plan to expand reach and ensure financial sustainability.
  • Monitor market trends, media, and sector developments to prepare for the impact it may have on Lakeland Arts.
  • Strengthen media relationships and raise the organisation’s local and national profile.
  • Manage and support the develop the Marketing and Communications team.
  • Deliver a cost-effective marketing programme to drive visitor numbers, income, and engagement.
  • Oversee the department’s budget in collaboration with the finance team.
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR, other legal and sector regulations.
  • Review, develop and optimise our digital presence through engaging content, advertising, search engine marketing and other methods to drive bookings, grow our database and income.
  • Conduct visitor research to diversify audiences and improve visitor insights.
  • Champion the Lakeland Arts brand internally and externally.
  • Manage marketing reporting for internal analysis, trustees, and funders, including Arts Council England.
  • Review and maintain key policies, including Communications and Social Media Guidance.
  • Work with the Development team to achieve the Lakeland Arts Fundraising Strategy, delivering campaigns, communications, grant support to grow raised income, memberships and donations.
  • Contribute to strategic discussions and decision-making as part of the Senior Leadership team.
  • Build partnerships with cultural organisations and businesses to expand audience reach.
  • Ensure efficient use of marketing systems (CRM, GA4, Meta, Canva, Mailchimp, SharePoint, Adobe).
