Job Description

Position Description
The staff accountant supports the Finance Team in accounts payable, accounts receivable and month-end reconciliations.
The position requires excellent interpersonal and accounting skills, a high level of organization and focus, and an ability to work under tight deadlines. This position will be interim for at least six to eight months with the potential to become a permanent hire and will report to FFAR’s controller.
Duties & Responsibilities

Accounts Payable/ Disbursements

  • Process accounts payable on Bill.com, administer approval routing to support FFAR’s organizational structure
  • Assist senior accountant in collecting relevant information for 1099 processing for appropriate FFAR vendors
  • Review and process employee and board member expense reimbursement requests ensuring appropriate approval and compliance with FFAR policies
  • Assist senior staff accountant to provide training and support to employees and board members
  • Review employee reconciliation of FFAR-issued credit cards monitoring for proper manager approval and compliance with FFAR policies
  • Coordinate payment of honorarium to scientific reviewers and advisory counsel members

Accounts Receivable

  • Prepare invoices for matching funds, consortia dues and other receivables
  • Assist the controller to monitor past due accounts receivable balances
  • Manage accounts receivable requirements from various FFAR partners
  • Process cash receipts

Grants Management

  • Assist senior staff accountant to verify bank details for grant recipients
  • Record grant payments in accounting system

Banking & Investments

  • Record bank and investment activity in accounting system

General Accounting and Reporting

  • Prepare some month-end journal entries and reconciliations
  • Administer cell phone equipment and service for employees electing a FFAR-owned cell phone

Audit & Tax Compliance

  • Support controller with preparation for FFAR’s annual audit and 990
  • Assist senior staff accountant with annual state registrations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or relevant field required
  • One to three years of experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger accounting
  • Basic knowledge of financial regulations and accounting processes
  • Experience in a nonprofit organization a plus
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially within Excel and Word
  • Experience using accounting, accounts payable and expense reporting software a plus
  • Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to write clearly for staff, the board and external parties
  • Ability to work professionally and collegially within a fast-paced culture that emphasizes excellence and teamwork
  • Demonstrated time management skills, including an ability to meet multiple deadlines by maintaining a high level of organization
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy and initiative when working with others
