Description

ABOUT US

Du Toit Yacht Design is South Africa’s premier naval architecture firm, internationally recognised for our design of custom, semi-custom, and production catamarans. Based in the heart of Cape Town’s boatbuilding hub, our team offers full-spectrum yacht design—naval architecture, systems engineering, structural design, and interior design. We work with world-renowned boatbuilders and have designed more catamaran metres and tonnage than any other firm in the Southern Hemisphere.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly motivated Interior Designer with strong technical and architectural drafting skills to join our team and contribute to the design and detailing of yacht interiors. You’ll be working on world-class sailing and power catamarans, integrating functional interior layouts with aesthetic excellence and structural considerations.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects in an exciting, collaborative studio environment focused on innovation and precision.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Academic or practical grounding in architectural drafting, building construction, and interior design technology
  • Proficient in 2D CAD drawing (AutoCAD or equivalent)
  • Skilled in 3D modelling software such as Rhino, CATIA, or SolidWorks
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and a neat work ethic
  • Able to work well independently and collaboratively
  • Strong communication and time management skills
  • A proactive mindset with a passion for design, detailing, and technical innovation

DESIRABLE SKILLS (ADVANTAGEOUS)

  • Previous experience in the marine or yacht design industry or an interest in vessels would be advantageous
  • Interest or experience in ergonomics, marine-grade finishes, and spatial constraints
  • Experience producing photorealistic renders or visualisations
Responsibilities

  • Prepare mood boards, FF&E presentations, and material selections
  • Develop and produce detailed 2D working drawings and 3D models

  • Liaise with builders to ensure designs are translated accurately into production
  • Assist with hyper-realistic rendering and presentation packages
