Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Technical & Design, this role is integral to the achievement of company objectives, and you contribute value through key areas of oversight such as:

  • Developing engineering designs and specifications for ferry interiors including passenger lounges, washrooms, crew accommodations, galleys, retail spaces, control rooms, and accessible areas.
  • Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including Customer Experience, Catering & Retail Operations, Branding, and Safety to ensure operational requirements, service standards, and brand identity are integrated into interior design.
  • Translating functional requirements and user feedback into spatial layouts, material selections, and outfitting details that enhance the ferry travel experience for passengers and crew.
  • Developing technical drawings for interior and outfitting systems such as partitions, ceilings, doors, built-in furniture, lockers, signage, and accessories.
  • Specifying materials and finishes with a focus on marine environment durability, fire safety, acoustic performance, accessibility, and ease of maintenance.
  • Ensuring designs are compliant with requirements from SOLAS, IMO, Accessibility Standards Canada, Transport Canada, and classification society rules.
  • Coordinating the integration of interior and outfitting systems with other disciplines such as HVAC, piping, lighting, electrical, and structural, and marine systems engineering teams.
  • Working with supply chain professionals and suppliers to evaluate product quality and suitability.
  • Acting as the lead for mock-up reviews, onboard inspections, factory acceptance tests (FATs), and commissioning activities to verify production design and quality.
  • Contributing to change management, document management, and lessons learned processes.
  • Onsite presence requirement at an international shipyard for short to medium durations during ship construction phases.
