Description
The Admas Lake Indian Band is seeking an Intermediate Accountant.  The incumbent will be responsible for a diverse range of accounting duties across both ALIB and its related business entities. To include but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, performing account reconciliations and full-cycle accounting for ALIB business entities as required. This role also supports the preparation of internal and external financial reports and analysis. This position will perform reviews and analysis that require working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (PSAS/IFRS), First Nations Tax Commission and selected CRA rules and regulations. This position reports to the Controller or designate.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES   * Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Adams Lake Indian Band policies and procedures.  * Oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll; act as subject matter expert in all related systems and provides backup support when required. * Inputs monthly journal entries and bank entries/transfers.  * Creates, updates, and processes recurring journal entries and interdepartmental and intercompany allocations or invoices.  * Performs monthly/quarterly balance sheet reconciliations including bank reconciliations and records necessary adjustments.   * Assists in the review of monthly and annual internal/external financial statements for accuracy and makes required adjustments.   * Responds to inquiries on financial transactions and budgets, making adjustments as needed.  * Ensures compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.  * Provides reporting and analytical support to the Senior Accountants and CFO. * Assists with year-end audit preparation.  * Prepares annual budget templates for distribution.  * Assists in preparing annual budgets and budgets for funding applications. * Any other tasks as required.   QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS * Post secondary education with a Bachelors (four year) 4 year Finance or related degree from a recognized University, and on the pathway to obtaining a CPA designation. * Three to five years of accounting experience in an indigenous, not-for-profit or public sector experience (desirable). * Knowledge of accounting standards in the non-profit sector.   * Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation applicable to Indigenous communities.  * Understanding of Federal Employment Standards and Human Rights legislation.   * Ability to adapt to changing software environments and applications. * Strong attention to detail with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight reporting deadlines.  * Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and Teams; experience with accounting systems such as Adagio, Sage 300, Power Query functions or similar is considered an asset.  * Excellent communication and organizational skills.   SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES   Provide back up and supervisory duties as required.   PHYSICAL DEMANDS Those normally associated with a typical office environment. Continuous visual concentration on computer and/or laptop.   WORKING CONDITIONS Most of the work duties will be performed in a typical office environment.   EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE Equipment: Photocopier, Printer, Scanner. Location: 6453 Hillcrest Road, Chase BC V0E 1M0 Hours per week: 75 hours biweekly (max 37.5 hrs./week), with flexibility in hours/days of work.   WHY US?
