The Municipal Group of Companies, based in Bedford, Nova Scotia, is a large, diversified organization engaged in all major aspects of heavy civil construction, mining, and environmental services within the Atlantic Provinces. The Municipal Group of Companies is a recognized CPA Pre-Approved Training Office in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. We are currently seeking an Intermediate Accountant to join our accounting department, based out of Bedford, Nova Scotia.
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules.
Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, risks, and opportunities.
Contribute to the budgeting and forecasting processes.
Analyze and interpret results from construction projects, manufacturing facilities and other operational activities to assess profitability, budget performance and key performance indicators.
Daily maintenance of accounting records.
Assist with internal controls, audits and process development.
Provide timely and accurate service to internal clients and stakeholders.
Mentor and support junior staff.
Sundry duties as required by the department.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce or Business Administration.
3+ years of related experience.
CPA designation, or currently in the late stages of CPA PEP.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required.
Knowledge of the civil construction industry or project-based accounting is considered an asset.
Utilizes strong organizational skills and can lead and work as part of the accounting team.
Detail oriented with strong quantitative and analytical skills.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to present financial insights clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet tight deadlines.
