Description

Doing good work behind a screen, but never getting in front of the client? This is the role that changes that.

Trekk Advisory in Gympie is looking for an Intermediate Accountant to join our team - someone solid on the compliance work who genuinely wants to sit across the table from business owners and help them run better businesses. If that’s the direction you want your career to go, we’ve built this role around it.

We’re not your standard accounting firm. We build real business friendships, we balance banter with serious hard work, and we back our people to grow. What we’re offering here is a clear path: start with the compliance work you already know, get real client exposure from day one, and grow into your own portfolio of small business clients.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll start where you’re strongest and build from there.

•   Preparing individual income tax returns - the core of your first few months, and where you’ll get to know our client base.

•   Supporting our business clients with BAS preparation - GST reconciliations, activity statements, and the workpapers behind them.

•   Training clients on Xero - getting them set up properly, showing them how to use it, and fixing the habits that make their accounts messy.

•   Meeting clients face to face - this is a big part of the role, not an occasional extra.

•   Working alongside the accountants and admin team to keep jobs moving, on budget, and on time.

Where it goes

As you find your feet, you’ll take on your own portfolio of small business clients - owning those relationships, running their compliance cycle, and being the person they call. That’s the trajectory, and we’ll be deliberate about getting you there.

You’ll also get dedicated monthly mentoring with the director. Not a rushed catch-up between jobs - protected time to work through technical questions, client situations, and where your career is heading. Growth here is planned, not accidental.

Who thrives here

You’re technically sound and you care about getting it right. You ask when you’re unsure and you don’t guess.

You like people. You can explain a BAS or a tax position to a business owner in plain English without making them feel silly, and you’re comfortable being the one in the room.

You’re organised and self-motivated. You keep your jobs moving without needing to be chased, and when you see a better way to do something, you say so.

What you’ll bring

•   A couple of years’ experience in an Australian public practice, preparing individual returns and ideally BAS.

•   Working knowledge of Xero - or another cloud ledger and the confidence to pick Xero up quickly.

•   A Cert IV, Diploma, or solid practical experience that stands in its place.

•   Good communication, by phone, email, and in person.

  • CA or CPA study isn’t a requirement, but if you want to do it we’ll support you -financially and with the time to actually get through it. If you don’t tick every box, don’t count yourself out. The right attitude carries a lot of weight here.
