JOB DESCRIPTION

AECOM is currently seeking an Intermediate Civil Highway Designer, based in our Sudbury, ON, Canada office.
This is a full-time role expected to begin as soon as possible

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have completed a Civil Engineering Technician/Technology Diploma + 2 years relevant experience.
  • 1+ year of experience using InRoads or OpenRoads software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of experience using AutoCAD.
  • 5+ years of experience in the Civil Engineering field.
  • Knowledge of TAC, OTM, and MTO design procedures and standards.
  • Experience with MTO highway designs is an asset.
  • Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD. Experience with Civil3D and InRoads is considered an asset.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proactive and reliable, with a strong ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and exceptional leadership abilities, fostering a collaborative and productive team environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, coupled with strong technical and organizational skills, ensuring precision and efficiency in all tasks.
  • Previous consulting engineering experience is an asset.
  • OACETT Certification (C.Tech or C.E.T.) is an asset.
Responsibilities
  • Design highways using OpenRoads Designer software.
  • Coordinate and assist with provincial and municipal design projects.
  • Develop preliminary and detailed design based on engineering reports, detailed notes, and client specifications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Prepare preliminary and detailed design drawings, including plans, profiles, cross-sections, geometrics, drainage and utilities.
  • Prepare design quantities, cost estimates, and provide technical support throughout the tendering and construction processes.
  • Participate in meetings with internal staff, subconsultants, and clients, documenting decisions and following up on action items.
  • Coordinate with project managers and design team members to understand project requirements and deliverables, and participate in decisions regarding technical methods, scheduling, and cost.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, environmental planners, technologists, subconsultants and administrative staff.
  • Monitor project plans and schedules.
  • Mentor, coach, and train junior staff, providing ongoing support and guidance for junior staff.
  • Adhere to industry design standards and drafting requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiencies.
  • Conduct field visits.
