Intermediate Database Engineer Job Description We are seeking an experienced and motivated Intermediate SQL Server Database Engineer to join our data team. The successful candidate will have 3–4 years of professional experience in database engineering, administration, and performance optimization across large, high-transactional environments. You will be responsible for ensuring the stability, scalability, and efficiency of our SQL Server and Azure SQL databases, supporting ETL workflows, and contributing to data integrity and quality assurance. This role requires strong technical proficiency in T-SQL, Azure SQL, and database performance tuning, complemented by a proactive mindset toward automation, cloud technologies, and continuous improvement. Familiarity with tools and platforms such as Power BI, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and PowerShell scripting would be advantageous but is not mandatory. Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain SQL Server databases, stored procedures, and functions. Optimize and tune queries, indexes, and database structures for performance and scalability. Manage and administer Azure SQL databases including provisioning, scaling, monitoring, and security. Configure and maintain SQL Server environments (on-prem and cloud). Develop and manage ETL workflows for data ingestion, transformation, and integration (e.g., SSIS, Azure Data Factory). Support data validation, testing, and QA activities to ensure data consistency and integrity. Collaborate with developers, analysts, and infrastructure teams to support data-driven initiatives. Perform database backups, restores, and disaster recovery planning. Monitor database health and troubleshoot performance or availability issues. Contribute to automation and DevOps initiatives related to database deployments and CI/CD pipelines. Assist in data analysis, reporting, and dashboard development. Strong proficiency in T-SQL and performance tuning for large, high-volume systems. Experience managing and optimizing Azure SQL or other cloud-based databases. Solid understanding of SQL Server configuration, indexing strategies, backups, and security. Experience with ETL tools (e.g., SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Airflow or similar). Familiarity with testing and QA practices for database changes. Exposure to data visualization tools (Power BI preferred). Basic scripting experience with PowerShell, Python, or similar automation tools. Understanding of data modeling, normalization, and database design principles. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (Git), and DevOps practices (nice to have). Knowledge of monitoring and alerting tools such as Azure Monitor, Datadog, or Redgate suite. Awareness of data governance, security compliance, and privacy best practices. Nice to have exposure to Snowflake, PostgreSQL, MongoDB or other NoSQL database technologies.
