INTERMEDIATE DESIGNER CIVIL
Mainstay project designers are responsible for establishing, coordinating, and monitoring all aspects of the engineering effort to undertake and complete the technical engineering design in accordance with the project scope documents.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Technical Diploma in Engineering Technology or Engineering Design and Technology
SASTT registration/certification is an asset
5-10 years of experience in related fields

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Intermediate Civil Designer is responsible for providing cost estimates and designs for a diverse range of projects. Reporting to the Team Lead, you are responsible for communicating directly with clients and customers to establish service requirements and provide solid design solutions and alternatives that meet client needs. You will work with landowners, customers, and other client departments to ensure that the projects are effectively coordinated and executed by yourself. You will ensure that facilities are designed in a safe, cost-effective and timely manner and meet all applicable codes, standards and regulations.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working closely with Engineering Lead, Engineers, Project Managers, and other Designers to provide detailed design work and drafting for infrastructure projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D software
Prepare civil drawings for submission, as well as provide detailed draft engineering calculations (i.e., Mathcad, Excel), Material Take-off’s, etc.
Ensure drawings meet client specifications and Canadian and/or American codes and standards
Assisting with bathymetric, topographic and quantities surveying
Processing survey and LiDAR point clouds
Developing hydrological, hydrogeological and geotechnical figures and sketches
Design of water and wastewater systems
Designs municipal infrastructure services of water, storm and sanitary
Familiar with material constructions such as concrete, steel and masonry.
Experience in interpreting geotechnical and hydrological reports.
Moderate understanding of soil characteristics and soil tests.
Design civil earthwork, shallow/deep foundations, retaining walls, underground utilities and surface run facilities.
Create detailed designs including roads, culverts, drainage, bridges and infrastructure.
Having a strong mechanical aptitude
Writes technical reports to assist our clients in making decisions
Prepares detailed design and specifications for construction projects
Administers construction project, including applicable field inspections
Meets with clients and stakeholders to understand and execute deliverables
Assists with proposal preparation
Work from schematics, sketches, and verbal instructions.
Assist other designers with project deliverables.
Report project progression updates and/or issues to Lead Engineers/Designers or Project managers.
Design distribution infrastructure to meet the project requirements
Develop design solutions that meet all applicable codes, standards, and regulations
Develop project cost estimates and material lists
Manage external client relationships through effective and timely communication
Monitor project progress and take action to meet client requirements
Travel and perform site visits as required
Identify potential safety or environmental concerns and initiate appropriate action
Coordinate designs with various 3rd party stakeholders
Facilitate approval requests with various 3rd party stakeholders
Provide coaching and guidance to project team members
Provide technical guidance to customers, stakeholders, and external consultants
Being open to receiving advice and guidance from senior engineers.
Qualifications:
Must have successfully completed either a degree or diploma at an accredited College/Department of Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or Engineering Design and Technology
Must be proficient and experienced with AutoCAD Civil 3D
Expertise in problem analysis, problem-solving and design thinking
Effective technical communication skills, both oral and written
Valid Driver’s License
Adaptable to various environments and situations
Willing to travel occasionally
