Wave Engineering is an engineering firm with offices in Grande Prairie (Head Office), Edmonton, Calgary, and Drayton Valley. We work on projects for clients across various industries. We are looking for an Intermediate Electrical Engineering Technologist to join our team!
As an Intermediate Electrical Engineering Technologist, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and managing Electrical & Instrumentation designs that support our diverse range of projects. This position will, preferentially, be based in Edmonton.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist with ASET or equivalent.
  • 5-10 years applicable electrical engineering technologist experience.
  • Experience on Water and/or Wastewater projects is an asset.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Canadian Electrical code and additional industry standards (IEEE, ANSI, IES, CSA, etc.).
  • Maintain awareness of industry best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, Agi32, and Microsoft suite products.
  • Experienced in the use of Revit is an asset.
  • Drive to continue to improve existing knowledge base and skill-sets.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and flexible to work well under tight schedules.
  • Significant field experience and knowledge is an asset.
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record and available to attend out of office meetings or field inspections.
  • Preference given to Edmonton region candidates.

Responsibilities

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Depending on the candidate’s experience and aspirations, the role is seeking a dynamic professional with proven experience in the water and wastewater sector. While the core focus of this role centers on water and wastewater systems, we value versatility - candidates with expertise in municipal infrastructure, buildings, lighting, and other market sectors will be considered. This role will include:

  • Control system design (PLC, RTU etc.).
  • Power distribution design.
  • Motor control and protection system design.
  • Complete power equipment, data, lighting, lighting control, cable tray, life safety, fire alarm, and instrumentation designs, schematics, and layouts using CAD software.
  • Create I/O lists from received P&ID drawings.
  • Electrical specification review and contribution.
  • Vendor evaluation and coordination.
  • Serve as a lead electrical designer on projects and attend client meetings, reporting to the project manager and/or senior project leads.
  • Provide technical support, utilization, and mentoring to junior engineers and technologists.
  • Coordination with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
  • Performing calculations to analyze and design electrical system components, including lighting analysis calculations.
  • Depend on proactive, critical, and analytical problem-solving skills to deliver robust electrical designs.
  • Review documentation such as shop drawings for key technical information.
  • Respond to contractor submitted RFI’s.
  • Conduct field reviews and/or inspection activities during design or construction phases of the project.
