As our new Intermediate Environmental Specialist , you will play an important role on our Land Quality and Remediation team in Yellowknife.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/MEMBERSHIPS:

  • Degree or technical diploma in environmental science, engineering, geology, hydrogeology, or a related field.
  • 3–8 years of experience in contaminated site assessment and remediation, including leading or supporting Environmental Site Assessments (Phase I, II, and III ESAs), Records of Site Condition (RSCs), soil and groundwater sampling, excess soil management, and remediation programs.
  • Experience in the land development, infrastructure, and/or construction management sector considered a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of O. Reg. 406/19 requirements; experience with Project Area and/or Reuse Site Filings on the Registry, or providing peer review QP support, is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects with multi-disciplinary teams, while meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality results.
  • Strong understanding of health & safety practices applicable to contaminated sites, subsurface investigations, oil and gas facilities, and construction sites.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of small teams, including fieldwork in remote locations under variable conditions.
  • Professional designation or eligibility for professional status with a recognized organization (e.g., P.Eng., P.Geo., C.E.T.) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle, with willingness to travel to job sites and client facilities as required

Responsibilities

ROLE

As an Intermediate Environmental Specialist, you’ll be a key member of our Land Quality and Remediation team in Yellowknife. In this role, you’ll contribute to a variety of projects related to the assessment, monitoring, management, and remediation of contaminated sites, as well as excess soil management. You’ll work on projects across diverse settings including midstream and downstream oil and gas facilities, commercial and industrial properties, and federal and municipal sites.
Working alongside and supported by senior staff, you will take on increasing responsibilities in project coordination and delivery. This will include contributing to proposals and work plans, assisting with budget management, conducting field programs and site assessments, analyzing and interpreting data, preparing reports, and communicating directly with clients.
You’ll also have the chance to mentor junior team members, while continuing to learn and grow under the guidance of experienced colleagues. The role offers a mix of office-based responsibilities with opportunities to participate in fieldwork, depending on project requirements and your interests.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support project delivery by coordinating and completing assigned tasks, and assist in managing small technical programs under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Communicate with clients to support project updates and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Mentor junior staff in fieldwork and task management skills, while continuing to develop your own project management expertise through mentorship from senior professionals.
  • Contribute to a strong culture of Health and Safety through active participation and open communication with team members.
  • Participate in contaminated site projects including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), remediation projects, and Excess Soil management during design and construction phases.
  • Conduct and oversee field programs including sampling and monitoring of soil, groundwater, surface water, soil vapour, and/or remediation system operation and maintenance, and support the preparation of reports.
  • Assist with project coordination tasks such as scheduling, budgeting, and tracking progress to support project financial management.
  • Contribute to preparing regulatory submissions, such as Records of Site Condition (RSCs) and Notices on the Excess Soil Registry.
