JOB DESCRIPTION:

LEX Scientific is seeking an individual with excellent communication skills, field experience and strong multi- tasking abilities to join our multi-disciplinary team. LEX Scientific is currently recruiting for the position of
Intermediate Environmental & Occupational Health and Safety Technologist. The ideal candidate will have a college diploma or university degree in an applicable environmental science or engineering discipline with relevant building science, environmental monitoring or construction experience coupled with exceptional attention to detail, strong writing abilities and work ethic.
This position will involve field work to determine proficiency and on an as needed basis but will require strong reporting abilities to generate final reports from site inspections and support senior field staff as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • A college diploma or university degree in an environmental/building sciences or engineering specialty
  • Have previous hazardous materials and indoor air quality and/or occupational hygiene work experience
  • Exceptional technical writing and data analysis abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in field work in construction, environmental monitoring or other relevant practical experience; directly experience is not required but preferred.
  • Represent LEX Scientific in a professional and courteous manner
  • Have a working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Have excellent customer service skills
  • Be self-motivated and career-oriented
  • Have the ability to multi-task and stay organized
  • Be detailed oriented
  • Have excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Proficient with MS office suite, and 2 D drafting software (AutoCAD or similar)
  • Have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the completion of building inspections for hazardous materials and designated substances (such as: asbestos, lead, mercury, mould, etc)
  • Conduct mould and asbestos assessments including preliminary investigations and clearance monitoring
  • Assist in develop hazardous materials abatement specifications
  • Complete a wide range of industrial hygiene and indoor air quality projects
  • Creating and modifying formal report documents and engineering drawings for permit and tender submissions
  • Completion of indoor air quality assessments including measurement of various physical parameters, completion of infra-red thermography and other analytical methods to identify building anomalies.
  • Completion of radon monitoring for commercial facilities
