ProForma Engineering is a dynamic and growing engineering firm specializing in delivering innovative solutions across heavy industrial sectors. We work on complex, multidisciplinary projects that span oil & gas, mining, and manufacturing. We are currently seeking a Intermediate Mechanical Designer to join our team and lead electrical design and execution within our project teams.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Intermediate Mechanical Designer is a full-time position responsible for the direction and coordination of various discipline’s activities for the successful completion of projects. Reporting to the Senior Engineer and Project Manager, the Intermediate designer will provide a mutual understanding of all phases of work, as defined by the contract and to ensure continuity in job progress and design. Some travel and overtime may be required from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or similar.
  • 3-7 years experience in a North American heavy industrial industry such as oil & gas or mining
  • Preference for experience in EPCM or other consulting related roles
  • Field or office experience during project scoping, fabrication and construction
  • Technical background in the design of mechanical equipment and piping systems
  • Knowledge of applicable ASME, API and CSA codes
  • The role requires individuals that are self-starters with a strong desire to learn.

  • Excellent quantitative, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking, time management, organization, planning, and communication skills
  • A high degree of initiative.
  • An innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Software proficiency with AutoCAD, Plant3D, Inventor, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project). Training is available as part of on-board.
  • Proven experience in Mechanical System Design is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

Provide detailed engineering design activities including:

  • 3D modeling, design and reviews of facilities, including piping, equipment and building layouts

Provide project engineering deliverables and support including:

  • Calculations
  • Data sheets
  • Engineering Reports (PMP, Scoping Document, Technical Reports, etc.)
  • Drawings (PIDs, Plot Plans, Piping plans and isometrics, etc.)
  • Project cost estimates
  • Project scheduling

Support the Project Manager in completing tasks:

  • Cost and schedule tracking
  • Management of Change
  • Developing agendas and participation in client meetings
  • Managing vendors and 3rd party contractors

Support procurement and full turn-key project solutions including:

  • Preparing and reviewing bid tenders, request for Quotes (RFQ) and submittals
  • Reviewing technical and commercial components of received bids for bid spreads
  • Mentoring junior engineers and providing technical and professional feedback
  • Support company HSE activities
  • Creating highly detailed design schematics and drawings for various components of a project.
